Omaha Hi/Low: Basic Outline

Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is commonly viewed as one of the most complicated but popular poker variations. It is a game that, even more than normal Omaha poker, invites action from all levels of players. This is the chief reason why a once invisible variation, has expanded in acceptance so rapidly.

Omaha 8 or better starts like a regular game of Omaha. Four cards are dealt to every player. A sequence of betting follows where gamblers can bet, check, or fold. 3 cards are dealt out, this is called the flop. Another round of betting ensues. After all the gamblers have in turn called or folded, an additional card is revealed on the turn. a further round of betting happens at which point the river card is flipped. The gamblers will need to make the strongest high and low five card hands using the board and hole cards.

This is the point where some players get confused. Contrasted to Texas Hold ‘Em, where the board can be everyone’s hand, in Omaha Hi-Lo the player must utilize exactly 3 cards from the board, and precisely 2 cards from their hand. No more, not a single card less. Contrary to normal Omaha, there are 2 ways a pot might be won: the "high hand" or the "low hand."

A high hand is just how it sounds. It’s the best hand out of every player’s, regardless if it is a straight, flush, full house. It is the identical concept in almost every poker game.

A low hand is more difficult, but really opens up the action. When deciding on a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. the lowest hand is the weakest hand that can be made, with the worst being made up of A-2-3-4-5. Considering that straights and flushes don’t count, A-2-3-4-5 is the smallest value hand possible. The lower hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an eight and lower. The low hand takes half of the pot, as does the high hand. When there is no low hand presented, the high hand wins the whole pot.

While it seems complicated at first, after a couple of rounds you will be agile enough to get the fundamental subtleties of the game with ease. Seeing as you have players betting for the low and wagering for the high, and since such a large number of cards are in play, Omaha 8 or better provides an amazing range of betting choices and because you have several individuals battling for the high hand, as well as several shooting for the low. If you enjoy a game with a plethora of outs and actions, it is not a waste of your time to participate in Omaha 8 or better.
