Omaha Hi Low: General Outline

[ English ]

Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is often times seen as one of the most complex but well-loved poker games. It is a game that, even more than normal Omaha poker, aims for action from every level of players. This is the main reason why a once irrelevant game, has increased in acceptance so amazingly.

Omaha 8 or better begins like a normal game of Omaha. 4 cards are dealt to every player. A round of betting follows in which gamblers can bet, check, or fold. Three cards are given out, this is known as the flop. A further sequence of betting ensues. After all the gamblers have either called or folded, another card is flipped on the turn. a further round of betting happens at which point the river card is flipped. The entrants will need to put together the best high and low 5 card hands based on the board and hole cards.

This is the point where some players can get baffled. Unlike Hold’em, where the board can be every player’s hand, in Omaha hi-low the player must use exactly 3 cards from the board, and exactly 2 hole cards. No more, not a single card less. Unlike regular Omaha, there are two ways a pot can be won: the "high hand" or the "lower hand."

A high hand is just how it sounds. It’s the strongest hand out of every player’s, whether that is a straight, flush, full house, etc. It is the identical approach in just about all poker games.

A low hand is more difficult, but really free’s up the play. When deciding on a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. the lowest hand is the weakest hand that can be made, with the lowest being A-2-3-4-5. Because straights and flushes do not count, A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest possible hand. The low hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and lower. The lower hand wins half of the pot, as does the high hand. When there’s no lower hand presented, the high hand wins the whole pot.

It may seem difficult at the start, after a few hands you will be able to get the basic nuances of play easily enough. Since you have people betting for the low and wagering for the high, and seeing as so many cards are being used at the same time, Omaha/8 provides an overwhelming assortment of wagering possibilities and seeing that you have numerous players shooting for the high hand, along with many shooting for the low hand. If you love a game with all kinds of outs and actions, it’s worth your time to play Omaha High-Low.
